Team Rules 2017/18
Ayr and District Pool League Team Rules 2017-2018 1. Each team will play the other members of the League twice in the course of a season. ONE HOME & ONE AWAY. 2. Each team can have as many signed players as they wish but will only be able to play a maximum of 17 players in a league match. Each league match will consist of 6 singles, followed by 3 Scotch doubles and then a final 5 single frames. Cup matches will be 6 singles and 3 Scotch doubles. 3. All matches shall be played on a Thursday night, Cup ties will be played on a Friday. Matches to start by 8.00pm and end by 11.30pm when the result will stand. (But see rule 17 for tied Cup games). 4. Players will lag for break in all frames. The player winning the lag will have the option of racking – this must be supervised by a referee 5. A match can start when a team has two players present. Failure to attend a match will result in loss of match and a £30 fine. Failure to have two players present by 8.00pm will result in loss of one frame and a further frame for each 10 minute interval thereafter until such time as two players are present. 6. Once the match has commenced games must be played continuously. The time limit of 1 minute allowed between shots is permitted a extension of 30 seconds only once per side in each frame is permitted. The time limit is then 1 minute for that side for the rest of that frame. A time penalty is two visits to the opposition. Referees must ensure that time limits are strictly adhered to for all games and that they are equipped with an appropriate watch. 7. A player must be registered either at a general meeting or by notification to the Secretary in writing (posted in the Pool box by 2pm Sunday) or in accordance with Rule 4c of the Constitution before they can play in any match. Registration fee is £5. Any team playing unregistered players will lose points and be fined £10. 8. It will be possible for any team player to transfer from one team to another providing both team captains agree and the transfer takes place in the first half of the season. However, in cases of dispute the player has the right of appeal to the Committee, who will consider and rule on all extenuating circumstances. 9. The team captains should sign team sheets and results must be returned to the League Secretary in the Pool Box or at the next meeting as the pool app is being used. The winning team or, in the event of a draw, the home team, is responsible for returning results. Failure to do so will result in a £20 fine. 10. All results must be either texted to the Minute Secretary’s mobile phone, or posted on the Ayr and District Pool website, no later than 12.00 midnight on the night of the match (mobile number and website address is on the team sheets). A team sheet must still be returned to the Pool box (see Rule 9). 11. All outstanding fines must be settled by the end of the season or rule 6a of the constitution will be enforced. 12. Blackball Rules - as supplied to all teams - are to be followed. 13. In the event of a tied Cup game, i.e. the game is drawn at 11.30pm, a penalty shoot out will be used to decide the tie. Similar to football, five players from each team will take alternate shots from behind the break line at a spotted black. For each player the black is spotted and he (or she) has one chance to pot it. The score after five shots apiece will determine the winner. If the match is still tied the same five players from each team will take alternate shots as before but sudden death will apply but the cue ball must be hit from the centre of the baulk line. 14. On the night, the referee has the final say on all matters relating to the game including foul shots, interpretation of the rules, time, and control of bad or unsporting behaviour. However, see protests, rule 15 below. 15. Any disputes or protests, which cannot be resolved on the night, should be referred in writing, along with £5 from the protesting party, to the Secretary via the Pool box by 2pm on the Sunday after the match in accordance with constitution rule 7. 16. All teams will be responsible for the general upkeep of the table and equipment, (Note: a rest must be available). The size of tables must fall between 6 ft by 3 ft and 7 ft by 4 ft. The committee will monitor the standards of tables and investigate any reports of substandard playing conditions. 17. A spotted white should be available and used for all matches. If no spotted white is available, an ordinary white ball can be used – however the missing spotted white must be replaced by the team as soon as possible and this must be used for matches whenever available. 18. All tables must be equipped with an adequate black spot or marker. This is to aid referees with the racking of balls and the replacement of any object ball that leaves the table during a frame. 19. It is the primary purpose of the League to promote the game of pool in Ayr and District and to foster harmony among the teams concerned. All competitors are asked to enter into the spirit of the competition and display responsibility, good behaviour and sportsmanship at all times. The best of luck to your team in the 2017-2018 season.
